"Have I Not Sent You?"

"Have I Not Sent You?"

Judges 6:14 reads, “Then the Lord turned to him and said, ‘Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?’”.

In this verse, the Lord is talking to Gideon; He is telling him to deliver the Israelites from oppression under the Midianites. When He tells him “Go in this might of yours”, He is affirming that Gideon already possesses the strength that he needs–not necessarily physical power, but courage, conviction, and a heart willing to serve. It’s a reminder that God calls us to act using what we already have, even if we feel inadequate.

When God came to Gideon, he was hiding in a winepress, afraid and unsure. Any of us probably would have seen him as a coward, but God saw “a man of valor” (v. 12). God chose him to “save Israel from the hand of Midian”, who had been terrorizing them for 7 years! Gideon saw himself as weak, but God chose him to be the deliverer.

“Have I not sent you?” This rhetorical question is God’s assurance. If He sends someone, He equips them. It wasn’t about Gideon’s qualifications, but God’s authority and presence. This verse is a reminder that God sees potential where we see weakness. We have to have faith in Him, which means stepping forward even when we feel small.

So if God has called you, trust that He’s already given you what you need. Go in the strength you have—and let Him do the rest. Ask yourself: “What ‘might’ has God already placed in me that I’ve been too afraid to see?”
