Let Your Words Be Light
✨Speak Life, Not Strife✨ Day 2
📖Matthew 5:14 - “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
This verse doesn’t directly tell us how to speak, but it does tell us who we are—and I believe that matters when it comes to our speech. Jesus calls us the light of the world. Wherever God is, there’s light. Wherever He’s not, that’s where darkness lives.
So if we’re called to be light, that means God should be within us. And if He is, then we’ll be mindful of how we speak to others because our words reflect the light we carry. They should shine, not shame. They should guide, not confuse. They should speak life, not strife.
Oftentimes we focus on the first part of this verse, but Jesus never says anything that doesn’t matter. Every word in the Bible is there for a reason. So what does He mean when He says, “A city set on a hill cannot be hidden”? Let’s picture an actual city on a hill. Think of places like New York City or Las Vegas—known for their bright lights. Now imagine one of those cities sitting high on a hill, visible to everyone. We’d be struck by its beauty and glow, right?
As Christians, how can we portray that kind of city light if we’re not standing out as followers of Christ? How can we shine if we’re blending in with the darkness of the world? God wants His children to be seen—but seen as Christ was: full of grace, truth, and love. And not only are we to be seen—we’re to be heard. What people hear from us should be words that uplift, edify, and glorify God.
