The Heart Behind The Words

The Heart Behind The Words

Matthew 12:34–36 reminds us that our words are never just words. Jesus says that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks,” and that one day we will give an account for every careless thing we say.

That can sound heavy—but it’s actually a loving invitation.

Our words reveal what’s going on deeper inside. If frustration, bitterness, or fear are overflowing from our mouth, Jesus isn’t shaming us—He’s pointing to a heart in need of His healing touch. And when our words are full of grace, truth, and encouragement, it shows that He has been at work within us.

This passage calls us to pay attention:

Not just to what we say, but to why we say it.

Not just to the sound of our voice, but to the state of our heart.

Today, ask the Lord to fill your heart with His presence so fully that your words naturally reflect His love. When your heart is aligned with Him, your mouth becomes a vessel of life, hope, and truth.
