When My Heart Won’t Listen

When My Heart Won’t Listen

📖 Romans 8:7-8 “For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

There are days when our hearts feel stubborn — when we know what’s right, we know what brings peace, yet something inside of us resists. Paul tells us why: our flesh has its own agenda. It pushes us toward impatience, pride, fear, shortcuts, and self-reliance. And no matter how hard we try, the flesh can’t produce what God desires.

But here’s the hope: We don’t have to live from the flesh. We have the Spirit.

When we invite the Holy Spirit to govern our thoughts, He softens what was hard, calms what was anxious, and redirects what was drifting. He gives us the desire AND the power to please God. We don’t overcome the flesh by trying harder — we overcome by surrendering deeper.

Today, instead of wrestling in your own strength, whisper: “Holy Spirit, lead my mind today.”

Where the Spirit leads, obedience becomes natural. Peace becomes normal. And pleasing God becomes possible.
